All diseases have effects (which are most of the time negative) to people’s bodies. Some might be intentional, as in implementing diet restrictions, and some might be unintentional, which includes effects that rely on changes in the body’s internal systems. Diabetes, for one, has been continuously attributed to weight loss. Sufferers of diabetes must know if their weight loss is intentional or unintentional because each of these has certain implications. Read on and be aware of the two types of diabetes weight loss.

More often than not, people inflicted with diabetes are overweight. Diabetes is most of the time triggered by continuous consumption of unhealthy foods, which are also linked to unplanned weight increases. This condition leads to intentional diabetes weight loss. Due to diet restrictions, overweight diabetes contractors are forced to eat healthy. This results to their weight being lessened to being just “normal”. If all cases of weight loss due to contracting diabetes were intentional, then it would be great (since intentional weight loss actually means healthier patients). Unfortunately, this is not the case.

Diabetes is characterized by the body’s having increased insulin resistance. Insulin is important since it allows glucose to enter the cells – a process required for energy production. Resistance to insulin, however, will lessen the levels of glucose entering the cells, and therefore, will increase blood sugar levels. Increased blood sugar levels then result to increased urination frequency. As a result, diabetes patients tend to get dehydrated, and, therefore, lose weight. In addition, high blood sugar levels can cause muscle breakdown which also causes unintentional weight loss.

In order to prevent unintentional weight loss, one has to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. One can also take insulin shots to increase the levels of insulin in the body, and as a result, reduce blood sugar levels.

When faced with an unexpected diabetes weight loss, one must consult his or her physician immediately. When faced with diseases that have a high risk of developing into further complications, one cannot take possibilities for granted. Just remember to follow a healthy diet, and remember to regularly do physical exercises. These will keep you in shape and, therefore, reduce the risk of worsening your health condition.
