Diet for Diabetics – What NOT to Eat
Aug/090
For people with diabetes, one of the great challenges that come with this medical condition is regulating the food intake, as the diet for diabetics is crucial in the treatment and management of diabetes. The ability to control the symptoms largely relies on the ability of the body to maintain stable blood sugar levels. This can only be achieved with the right food intake.
Planning the diet for diabetics and exercise program can be quite tricky and should only be done with the assistance of a qualified medical professional. There are a number of food products that need to be avoided so as not to aggravate the situation. With the right diet and healthy lifestyle changes, people with diabetes will be able to lead a long and rewarding life.

Firstly, the main thing to remember here is to come up with a diet plan that will allow the body to maintain normal blood sugar levels. Wrong choices of sugar-laden foods can easily cause the glucose levels to spike up and worsen the condition, which can lead to serious damage on major body organs. Eating out for instance is a major challenge, as careful attention should be given on the choice of food. One thing to steer clear from are the carbonated drinks and sodas. According to American Diabetes Association, it is also important for diabetics to avoid hydrogenated oils, such as margarine and butter. Fatty beef and pork fat have also been identified to be best avoided. Fried food products are loaded with sodium, saturated fat and calories, all of which should be avoided. This means, it is best to steer clear from fast food chains.
Baked goods are also not to be included in the diet for diabetics. According the US FDA roughly 40% of the transfat consumed by Americans actually come from baked products such as pastries, cookies, muffins, pies and doughnuts. However, the great news is, with the growing market from health conscious individuals, there are baked products made that are sugar free and far free so be sure to check the labels. While processed foods are generally bad for the health, it is especially risky for diabetes so pay better attention on your food intake or better yet, create a diet plan that you can follow.
